First Anniversary: Wood

They say that your first anniversary gifts are supposed to be paper, but we celebrated over the weekend with wood. (Today is our actual anniversary, but we’re at work.)

A few weeks back Matt began bringing home pine skids that some of their parts come on at his shop. They’re in pretty darn good condition and they’re made of three 1″ x 12″ x 6′ boards each. I’m using them for the shelving in the dining room. On Saturday, we fashioned ourselves a pantry out of them in the corner of the kitchen under the sagging breakfast nook shelf. Shown here with Matt:
And here without:

On Sunday we chopped up a few more and Matt created a kitty cabin for our outside cat, Delmar:

It needs proper roofing material, a cat flap, and some paint, but it’s structurally sound and really quite cute!

I can’t wait to start playing with the anniversary present that Matt got me — my very own pressure canner!
